May be you are thinking about giving an special present (or several presents). To present an original painting is a way to acknowledge the ability to appreciate art on the person that receives it (expressing as well that ability on the person who chose it...) That applies to business presents too.
Some images have a strong power of evocation: an old house, a particular street, a special landscape...not to mention trains and streetcars... I can create an original painting on command from photographs you can send through the net.
